Reflection

Through the process of creating this essay, I had little struggle with finding and looking intoinformation to aid my piece. The topic of my essay was a hot one which always provoked intriguingarguments. Often people who argue against the 9-5 are go-getters and critical thinkers, which made eacharticle engaging to read. For my thesis, I intended to use my sources to give an introduction to my ownideas. I tried to frame them as a sort of “ally” to my defenses, giving credibility to my statements. Mythesis’s purpose is to not only state what my essay will be discussing, but it also stands as an opinion itselfon why a 9-5 should no longer be a default option. Many of the sources I discovered however were quiterepetitive and redundant, or felt like a published “vent” on the frustrations a 9-5 brought. Thus I had to digslightly deeper for the ones with unique points and/or even suggestions on how to move forward andescape the ‘Rat Race’. For me, one issue I kept facing was to articulate my own opinions withoutsounding as if I was just re-wording the content of my sources. I agreed with the majority of what I wasreading/watching, so making an effort to not “regurgitate” the sources took up a lot of my energy. I alsoneeded to offer my own convictions without offending someone who might prefer corporate office jobs tonot. Quite a bit of the general population is already working desk jobs, or eventually will, hence attackinga popular lifestyle choice can be risky. Consequently, I targeted not necessarily employees of desk jobs, but the jobs itself, the corporate CEO’s behind them, or simply just capitalism.
